Capstone Essay- Introductory Paragraph

🔴 I have always been curious about how teenagers express their individuality through their personal spaces. Because adolescents have so little control over their external lives, the areas that belong entirely to them become vital sanctuaries for defining identity, hopes, and dreams. The very essence of a teenager is often mapped out across the condition and curation of these spaces.
đźź My investigatory question for this project is: How do teenagers express themselves within the spaces they call their own?
🟡 I was deeply inspired by photographers like Lou Bopp, who documented the bedrooms of students killed in school shootings. His images captured intimate environments frozen in time long after the victims were gone. They powerfully demonstrated how grieving parents leave these rooms untouched, allowing the physical spaces to preserve the vibrant personalities of the lives cut short by gun violence.
🟢 Ultimately, I hope my photographs prove that teenage spaces reflect far more than just age; they represent a canvas for emerging dreams. By documenting personal environments like bedrooms, lockers, and vehicles, I want to capture the unique, authentic styling that defines this pivotal chapter of youth.
