  2. Principle of Design- Contrast

Contrast is a fundamental principle of design that involves the use of opposing elements to create visual interest, draw attention, and enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of a composition. At its core, contrast is about differences—differences in color, size, shape, texture, and other visual attributes. By incorporating contrast, designers can effectively highlight important elements, establish a visual hierarchy, and guide the viewer's eye through the design.

One of the most common forms of contrast is color contrast. This can be achieved by using colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel, such as blue and orange, or by pairing light and dark shades. High color contrast can make elements stand out and can be especially useful for emphasizing key information or creating a focal point. However, contrast isn't limited to color alone. Size contrast, for example, can involve using large text or images next to smaller ones to create emphasis and draw attention to specific areas of the design.

Texture and shape contrast also play vital roles in design. Using different textures, such as smooth versus rough, can add depth and interest to a composition. Similarly, contrasting shapes, such as geometric versus organic forms, can create dynamic and engaging visual experiences. By thoughtfully applying various types of contrast, designers can create compositions that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functionally effective in communicating the intended message to the audience.
